Christopher Marlowe.
Dr.faustus is a play by Christopher Marlowe, based on the German story , The Tragically History of the life and Death of Doctor Faustus.
1) The play directed by Matthew Dunster for Globe theatre ends with this scene (see the image of Lucifer). What does it signify?
~ In the last scene of the play directed by Mathew Dunster for Globle theater it signifies that after talking Lucifer become more powerful.Luchifer's big wing's proved that he become more stronge than Dr.faustus.
2) Is God present in the play? If yes, where and how? If No, why
~ In this play we can tell that god is present in the from of good Angles and old man both are allegorical character in the play,
GOOD ANGLE:-O, thou hast lost celestial happiness, Pleasures unspeakable, bliss without end Hadst thou affected sweet divinity, Hell or the devil had had no power on thee: Hadst thou kept on that way,… ... And now, poor soul, must thy good angel leave thee: The jaws of hell are open to receive thee.
THE OLD MAN:-O gentle Faustus, leave this damned art, This magic, that will charm thy soul to hell, And quite bereave thee of salvation! Though thou hast now offended like a man, Do not persever in it like a devil: Yet, yet thou hast an amiable soul, If sin by custom grow not into nature; Then, Faustus, will repentance come too late; Then thou art banish'd from the sight of heaven: No mortal can express the pains of hell.
In both of dialogue Marlowe try to prove that there is an element like god on earth.and also god present in soul of Mephistopheles,he warning many times.
So we can say that god is invisibly present throughout the play.
3) What reading and interpretation can be given to this image (see the image of Daedalus and Icarus) with reference to central theme of the play Dr. Faustus?
~ Icarus is son of the master craftsman baedalus. His father is talented.he give wings to him and warna him to do not fly near sun because it is made by besswex
But Icarus forget that truth and flew to near the sun and his wing melt and he fall down on earth then he died. Heare similarly in the play Dr. Faustus ignoring the warning of the good angel, the old man,his tow good friend. Hi fall down from position and power of knowledge likes as themes of Icarus.
4) How do you interpret this painting?
~ In this image we can see that in "Greek Mythology". Icarus is son of the master craftsman baedslus.he give wings to him and warna him to do not fly near sun because it is made by besswex
But Icarus forget that truth and flew to near the sun and his wing melt and he fall down on earth then he died.So here i would like to interpret that behind the ship there is a drowning leg of Icarus.Icarus is drowning down but everyone is busy in their work no one has a time to look at his suffering. Here we can see reality of world.
5) Read this article by Bhagat Singh. In light of the arguments made by Bhagat Singh in this article, can you re-write last monologue of Doctor Faustus?
~ Bhagat singh:- I don't have to live for a year,a month,a week, I am ready to die now.
At death i will not remember a second lord
Then I will not even repent that I find a place in heaven or in hell.I have lived all my life for my life and if I remember God at death I would be stupid.
