'The purpose' by T. P. Kailasam

        Here is my answer on 'The purpose' by T. P. Kailasam task given by Vaidehi ma'am Haryani. Click here to read about this task


       T. P. Kailasam was a playwright and prominent writer of Kannada Litreture. His contribution to Kannada theatrical comedy earned him the title Prahasana Prapitamaha, "the father of humorous plays" and later he was also called "Kannadakke Obbane Kailasam" meaning "One and only Kailasam for Kannada.

● Question 1
Compare and contrast Arjuna and Eklavya's character.

The purpose by T. P. Kailasam is based on Mahabharata.Here are a few points from Arjun and Ekalavya. Arjun is student of archery he belongs to an upper class family he is  prodigal Prince when Eklavya went to become a student of archery he is is the protagonist of the play in the purpose he belong to a lower class family a weak person from lower caste and he is Nishad boy in this play Arjuna went to become the great archery in the world Eklavya bahan to learn archery to say like of innocent animals Arjun at the end of the play he belongs a grat Archer. When Eklavya at the end of the story he lost his thumb we feel pity for Eklavya.

What is ' Subaltern ' ? Who do you think the Subaltern in this play ? Explain with example

Subaltern theory takes the perspective of the "Other" as the the one who has had no voice because of race, class, or gender. This theory is based on deconstruction as Derrida has proposed it. It emphasizes that norms are established by those in power and imposed on the "Other."In this play, Eklavya is subaltern because his voice is suppressed because class system and Dronacharya refused to teach him archery because he is Nishadha

Write your views about education system in India with reference to past and present time

 education system was different now a day in India. today's India education has become a big business all school think about student as a tool of money school and University on horse higher very low qualified teachers. super 30 is one of the best example of film the understand today's system of education.

Is Dronacharya an ideal teacher ? If yes, then how ? If No, then why ? Explain with example


  No, Dronacharya is not good teacher.   Because   Dronacharya    only give the  pressure  of  Arjuna  Because   Arjuna  is  prince  and Dronacharya   not  give the importance  of Eklavya.  Eklavya  is not upper class.   "  All  students   are    equal  for  teacher"  but  this  sentence  not mach the Dronacharya. You  can  see the  this nawaday  understand   system  of  education

            Girish Karnad was an Indian actor, film director, Kannada writer,playwright and a Rhodes Scholar, who predominantly worked in South Indian cinema and Bollywood.  He was always Shakespeare, Wordsworth or Dickens in school and never Karnad, Kambar or Karanth
  


Girish karnad was well known of using history and mithology to tackle many contemporary and controversial essues. One reason like Bangalore international airport could be changed name on tipu sultan and people become furious upon karnad's and fire his statue.he was lead in several proted against the Karnataka prevention of cow slaughter and preservation bill at the event he said that I did not himself a beef eater but supported beef eating us it was part of several cultures.
 Girish karnad  was a proponent of multi cultralism and freedom of expression. He was critic of religiou fundamentalism. He had opposed  RSS, BJP and other organisatie on several occasions. Many people said his way was hindu hater. Many time he was  opposite hindu ritvals.

The Metaphysical poetry

                       I am share my poit of views on 
activity of 'Metaphysical poetry'.  This activity given by Dilip Barad sir as the part of our syllabus

  Metaphysical poetry is not intended to be read in a passive way. Its use of paradox, imagery, conceit & wit is meant to awaken the reader. Metaphysical poetry asks the philosophical questions about religion, faith, spirituality & being.


Mening of metaphysical poem:-

               The word 'meta' mens beyond and 'physics' means science of concrete thing. So metaphysical means a subject that deals with
things,which do not have concrete shape.highly intellectualized poetry marked by bold and ingenious conceits, incongruous imagery, complexity and subtlety of thought, frequent use of paradox, and often by deliberate harshness or rigidity of expression.

   In the first half of the 17th century,a group of poets emerged who'es poetry is known as "The Metaphysical Poetry". Since John Donne was the pioneer of this group ,it is also known as the school of john Donne .The other poet who followed footstep of John Donne were George Herbert , Andrew Marvell and Abraham Cowley and Robert Herrick .These poet try to followed the style of writing poetry which was initially cultivated by John Donne.

# Characteristic of Metaphysical poetry:-

 ~ Metaphysical poems are all highly intellectualized,they contain large doses of wit.
~ Use rather strange imagery
~ Use frequent paradox
~Contain extremely complicated thoughts.
~Wholeness:
  emotion+intellect+body+soul=humanbeings

# Conscious Attempt  :

All the metaphysical poets made a conscious attempt to differ in the style of writing poetry from the former poets .They were not whiling to continuous writing poetry in a same manner just like Shakespeare,Spencer,Philip Sydney,Christopher Marlowe and others.They wanted to make their poetry look different from the former poet.It was the conscious attempts to part with the exciting style writing poetry and to cultivate a new style.

 # Far Fetched Image :

Far fetched images and conciets is one more feature of the metaphysical poetry. They never tried to use and express their images from that field with which the theme of the poetry was concerned.They tried to bring there images from those field which have nothing to do with the theme of there poems so they are called far fetched images.

In tried to bring there images from the branches and areas just like agriculture mechanical engineering , architecture ,biology Geometry and many other field which have nothing common with the theme of there poems.Such a practice drew attention of the readers and it made them establish poets Herbert borrowed image from architecture and mechanical engineering . The best example are "The church porch" and "The Pulley" marvell made use of Geometrical and agricultural images.The best example is "To His Coy Mistress" Donne made use almost all type of images in his poetry.This kind of practice was and experiment for them in which they successfully.

  John Donne is pioneer of metaphysical poetry.His work are noted their strong,sensual    style and include sonnets,love poem ,religious poem songs satires. His poetry is noted for its vibrancy of language and inventiveness of metaphore. Donne's use was characterised by abrupt opening various paradoxes ironies and dislocations.Donne's works are also witty, employing paradoxes, puns, and subtle yet remarkable analogies. His pieces are often ironic and cynical, especially regarding love and human motives. Common subjects of Donne's poems are love, death and religion

  #"The Sun Rising"



       "The Sun Rising" is a thirty line poem with three stanzas publish in 1633 hy john Donne. This poem is one of the best metaphysical poem. It is addressed to the sun by a lover who is company of his belover  the lover expression his consument for his belowing addresive this poem to the  rising sun.

      Vindo joshi is a post modern poet,writer and critic. A popular name for gujrati poetry is vindo joshi.his famous work as like sikhandi,swarup and siddhant,sairandhri etc.  He won many awards 'sahitya gaurav puraskar','Narsinh mehta award' and 'kalapi award'.Here i want to share my view on his prabandh form poem 'sairandhri' based on character of draupadi in mahabharat.This poem was growing in Australia.


'મારી સૈરન્ધ્રી મહાભારતકારથી અલગ છે.'

   Syndrami 'is a feature of' prabandhpoem'.  Prabandh is a medieval storybook depicting the character of a historical person.This poem composed in prabandha from with  seven cantos,49 chapters and 1800 lines.As a part of languages that poet used
Chopai and dohra in sairandhri.

   હતી નામ રટતી નિજનું સૈરન્ધ્રી  શ્વાસે શ્વાસ,
   હસ્તીનાપુરની  મહારાણી  એતો  કેવળ ભાસ.

   દ્રુપદ સુતા કે દુષ્ટદુમ  ને ભગીનિ  કે પાંડવ નાર,
   પરિચય સઘળા થયા લુપ્ત એ સૌથી વસમી હાર.

સૈરન્ધ્રી એક અલગ પાત્રતાના રૂપે વિનોદ જોશી એ તેના ખંડકાવ્યમાં સ્થાપિત કરી છે. આ ખંડકાવ્ય એક અલગ અસ્મિતા સ્વરૂપે લખવામાં આવ્યું છે. જેમાં દ્રૌપદીના પાત્રને એક અલગ વિશેષતા સાથે પ્રગટ કરવામાં આવી છે. આ ખંડકાવ્ય માણસના જીવનના ક્યાં ક્યાં અંદરુની આભાસ હોય છે તેને ઉજાગર કરે છે. કેમ કે વિનોદ જોશી દ્વારા એક અલગ પરિસ્થિતિ માણસ કેવી રીતે પોતાની જાતમાં બદલાવ કે વર્તનમાં નોંધનીય ફેરફાર કરે છે તેની અભિવ્યક્તિ આ ખંડકાવ્યમાં જોવા મળે છે.

કેમ કે સૈરન્ધ્રી એ દ્રૌપદીનું પાત્ર છે. મહાભારતમાં જ્યારે ધ્રુપદ રાજાને ત્યાં બધા પાંડવો એક વર્ષ માટે અજ્ઞાતવાસ માટે જાય છે ત્યારે દ્રૌપદી પોતાની સાચી ઓળખને છુપાવીને પોતાની નવી ઓળખ ઉભી કરે છે. જે પોતાના સાચા સામાજિક સ્થાનથી વિશેષ રૂપે એક દાસી સ્વરૂપે ત્યાં રહે છે. એ સમય દરમિયાન  સૈરન્ધ્રી તરીકે દ્રૌપદીની મનઃ સ્થિતિ શુ હોય છે તેનું વર્ણન આ ખંડકાવ્યમાં કરવામાં આવ્યું છે. કેમ કે આજના સમયમાં કોઈ પણ વ્યક્તિ હોય તેને પોતાની ઓળખને છુપાવવી જ પસંદ હોય છે. સમાજમાં સાચી ઓળખ એટલે પોતાની પર્સનલ આઇડેન્ટિટી બધા લોકો છુપાવીને જ રાખતા હોય છે. જેની મનઃસ્થિતિ પણ આ ખંડકાવ્યમાં સૈરન્ધ્રીના પાત્રમાં જોવા મળે છે.

આ એક અલગ વિશેષતા સાથે આલેખવામાં આવ્યું છે. જેમાં પાત્ર મહાભારતમાંથી લેવામાં આવ્યા છે પરંતુ ખાસ પ્રભુત્વ દ્રૌપદીના પાત્ર પર વધારે ભાર મૂકવામાં આવ્યો છે. તેની સાથે આ કૃતિમાં ભગવાન શ્રી કૃષ્ણ કે બીજા અન્ય પાત્ર ના પ્રભાવ દર્શાવવામાં નથી આવ્યા. પરંતુ દ્રૌપદી આ ખંડકાવ્યમાં કર્ણ વિશે પોતાના શું અભિપ્રાય ધરાવે છે તેનું વર્ણન છે. આ રચનામાં દ્રૌપદી કર્ણ પ્રત્યે પોતાના લાગણી ભાવો છે તે વિનોદ જોશી દ્વારા કહેવામાં આવ્યા છે. કેમ કે પાંડવો પહેલા દ્રૌપદી કર્ણ હૃદય ભાવથી નિહારતી હતી. એટલા માટે વિનોદ જોશી દ્વારા આ ખંડકાવ્ય મહાભારતની આસપાસ રાખીને લખ્યું છે. પરંતુ તેની રચના મહાભારતથી પર થઈને અભિવ્યક્ત કરવામાં આવી છે.
